Chapecoense is a Brazilian football club founded in 1973 playing in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A. The team finished 11th in the Serie A table. The team suffered a tragedy on the 28 November 2016 when its charter flight carrying the first team crashed in Colombia, where the team was about to play the first leg of the 2016 Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional. Following this tragedy and a request by Atletico Nacional, the trophy was awarded to Chape.
In its first kit launch since the plane tragedy, the team has launched a new home kit which they used for the first time in the Copa Libertadores loss by the score of 3-1 against Lanus. The kit is designed and manufactured by Umbro, while the kit sponsor is aurora. The shirt has a dark green base colour with touches of light green on the collar and sleeves. The shirt features the text “Chape na Libertadores da América 2017. Obrigado, eternos guerreiros” meaning “Chapecoense in the 2017 Copa Libertadores – Thank you, eternal warriors” in a badge on the bottom right corner to commemorate the 71 people that died in the November plane tragedy.
