FC Bayern Munich have revealed their new home shirt for the 2017/18 season. As is tradition, the new home kit has been launched ahead of Bayern’s last home game of the current season, where they will be debuting the kit against Freiburg this Saturday.
The new shirt pays tribute to the kits worn during the 1970s, which is considered a very successful time for the club having won numerous trophies leading it to enjoy worldwide fame.
“I was lucky enough to wear the 1977 kit and even at the time I really liked the design,” commented chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on the reissued jersey. “This kit symbolised the start of a great era. Bayern had just won the European Cup for the first time. We were also German champions and many of the players from this team had also become World Cup winners in 1974,” recalled club president Uli Hoeneß, looking back on the great successes of his playing career.
The new home shirt is primarily red with striking white stripes on the front. The famous adidas 3-stripes are featured on the shoulders in white, whilst the FC Bayern Munich motto ‘Mia san Mia’ is featured at the back of the shirt. The shirt features a round white collar and sports white sleeve hems. German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom has its logo gracing the front of the shirt, with the club crest featured just over the heart and the adidas logo on the top right part of the chest. The shirt is complemented with red shorts and red socks.
