Manchester City has become the first team in the English Premier League to announce it will be featuring sponsor logos on its shirt sleeves as from next season. The Citizens have signed a deal with Nexen Tire Corp to which will see the Korean company’s logo featured on City’s shirt sleeves from next season.
Recent change in Premier League rules meant that the English Premier League will now allow teams to display sponsor logos on the right sleeve, whilst the left sleeve will remain featuring the Premier League logo.
“This is a very significant development in football sponsorship and one that brands should pay close attention to,” said Carl Woodman, U.K. managing director at Lagardere Sports, one of the world’s largest sports agencies. “The opportunity to sponsor shirt sleeves in Premier League football will provide a premium level of sponsorship association with these clubs at a more accessible price point than traditional shirt sponsorship.”
