More kit news from the Mexican league as we now take a look at the newly released Club América 2017 third kit. They finished the 2016 Liga MX as runners-up. Las Águilas (the Eagles), as they are affectionately known, are considered as the most successful club in Mexican football. They were founded in 1916 and during their 100 year-long history, they have won a record 12 league titles, 5 Mexican Cups and 7 CONCACAF Champions League trophies amongst others. The new third kit in fact commemorate the club’s centenary, denoting ‘1916-2016’ under the crest.
The new third shirt pays tribute to the club’s success with which they have become recognised as the biggest team in Mexico. The shirt features a green/light gradient with horizontal pinstripes running along the shirt. The shirt has a round-neck with a V-shaped end, providing a better fit to the player’s body.
The club will wear the new third kit for the first time on January 15 when they play Toluca in the 2017 Clausura. The shirt is complemented with fluorescent green shorts and socks.
Club América and Nike renew commitment to a sustainable enviroment
The shirts are manufactured by Nike who together with the club, continue to put their environmental sustainability at the heart of the kits. The shirts are manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. The shorts are made entirely out of recycled polyester whilst t-shirts are 96% recycled and the socks are 78%.
Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles and over four years, Nike has used roughly 2 billion of these bottles (equivalent to c. 111 million shirts) from landfills to produce their kits.
