The last-minute free-kick goal that handed Manchester United one point from a 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Saturday 21st January was Wayne Rooney’s record-breaking 250th goal for his club. The Englishman has now overtaken Sir Bobby Charlton in the record books and at 31 years of age, the Englishman still has some football years left in him playing at the highest level. Bobby Charlton had scored the 249 goals in his Manchester United career over 17 years, while Rooney has overtaken him in 12 years playing for the club.
The English captain and Manchester United captain has already broken the record of becoming all-time leading goalscorer for England with 50 goals scored. In spite of a mega-million kit sponsorship deal with Adidas, Rooney still wear Nike boots during matches. To celebrate this great achievement by one of its superstars, the American sportswear brand has released a special edition of the Hypervenom WR250.
The boot has a white and red colour, associated with the colours that he regularly wears both for Manchester United and for England. A logo appears on the boot featuring a crown and the number 250 on the tongue of the boot. WR10, standing for Wayne Rooney 10, being his shirt number, features on the side of the boot.
About these boots, Wayne Rooney commented as follows:
“Every goal I’ve scored has been scored in Nike boots and I appreciate Nike highlighting my foundation with these boots, not just the record.”
The Wayne Rooney Foundation helps underprivileged children and hosted a testimonial charity match in August 2016.
