RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V. is a German football club based in the city of Leipzig. The club was founded in 2009 by energy drink-maker Red Bull.
Despite its short history, the club has made great strides in German football. In their inaugural 2009/10 season, the club was playing in the German fifth division. Seven years later, they currently share top spot of the German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
Club Crest and Colours
RB Leipzig’s traditional colours are red and white, synonymous with the Red Bull brand. It is interesting to note that the club played their inaugural season without a crest as the Saxony Football Association did not approve any of the submitted crests claiming they were copies of the corporate logo of Red Bull.
Prior to the 2014/15 season, the club was required to change its crest by the German Football League, with the Football Association arguing that the club should not be used as means of advertising purposes. As can be seen above, the club removed the yellow sun from the background of the two red bulls, which is the central part of the company logo. The abbreviation RB (coincidentally the initials of the brand as well) has been shifted downwards next to the club name and is no longer in red.
Leipzig’s current home kit is primarily white with red detail around the neck and sides of the shirt, with the club crest placed just over the heart and the Nike logo in red on the top right part of the chest, and the Red Bull logo gracing the front of the shirt.
The new away shirt is primarily dark blue with yellow/red detail and uses the same template as that of the home shirt.
