In a controversial move, Sutton United have agreed a five-figure sponsorship deal with The Sun Bets, the betting arm of the British tabloid, for the match against Arsenal in the FA Cup. The fifth division team comes up against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal in the unpredictable competition’s Fifth Round. This sponsorship deal has caused disenchantment among supporters of the small team from South London and some took to the club’s forum to voice their concern about the replacement of usual sponsor Green Go Waste for this special match. They see The Sun as a toxic brand that they do not wish their club to be associated with. It was also alleged that the club censored some supporters who voiced concern on the club forum, something which Sutton United is denying.
Sutton United reached the Fifth Round of the FA Cup after winning against Football League opposition in Cheltenham Town, AFC Wimbledon and Leeds United. They come up against much stronger opposition when they take on the Gunners. Above you can see the yellow kit with brown details to be worn for the clash against Arsenal, as printed with The Sun Bets’ sponsor logo. The kits of Sutton United are manufactured by Joma.
